Inspiration of the month: Cajsa Wiremalm

Cajsa Wiremalm describes her path into ceramics as a coincidence that became a passion. After many years with painting as her form of expression, she found clay – and was hooked immediately. Together with her friend Sofie, she started the studio LUTUM in Örebro in 2020, initially as a small creative space of 30 square meters. Interest grew quickly, and today LUTUM is a vibrant ceramics studio and shop of 80 square meters where courses, events, and the joy of creating live side by side.

Cajsa speaks openly about the road to get there – about hesitation and curiosity, about countless kilos of clay that have been rolled out and thrown away, and about how she finally found her expression. During a year of advanced studies in Mullsjö in 2022, she and the clay became "real friends." There, she was able to deepen her techniques and find confidence in the craft. The spring of 2024 brought a breakthrough: the TV show *Så mycket bättre* asked her to create a dinnerware set for one of the meals in the program. The commission became a turning point. That was where her shapes and expressions took their current form – earthy, organic, and full of life.

Today, Cajsa works full-time with her ceramics. She primarily wheel-throws functional ware but also hand-builds sculptures, mixing techniques to keep her creativity alive. This autumn, she plans to introduce a "freedom hour" every week – a moment to create without goals, just following the feeling. One of her signatures is the Canyon mug, a warm, triple-dipped shape glazed in the color Ochre from Lervis. "After a lot of searching, I finally found the perfect brown glaze," she says. "I like to create in different ways. I believe variety is important – sometimes you need to pause to come up with something new." Five years after the start, LUTUM is now celebrating an anniversary – with new space, new energy, and the same love for the craft. A symbol of what happens when you dare to follow your creative drive to the fullest.
