258 Gray clay with black chamotte

Clay 258 is a grey clay with black grog. It contains 25% black grog (0–0.5 mm), which provides both structure and color contrast. The clay is plastic and easy to shape, and is well-suited for building small to medium-sized objects, slab building, coiling, and can also be used for throwing if you can handle slightly coarser grog. A vibrant, tactile, stone-like surface can be created by sponging the grog before firing – perfect if you want to give your work a rustic or artistic character.
Applications: Perfect for sculpture, slab building, coiling, and also suitable for throwing for those who don't have overly sensitive hands.
Firing temperature: 1000-1240°C

Risk of frost – important to know
Please note that clay, brush-on glazes, and other liquid products can be damaged by frost. By completing your purchase, you as a customer accept responsibility for the timing of your order and your choice of delivery. Lervis does not replace products damaged by frost during transport.
Pick up at Lervis ceramic studio
Your order can be picked up on-site at the Lervis ceramic studio, 10 km south of Hjo. The order can be picked up the following day and the pickup room is open 24/7.

Occasionally, local pickup is offered in other locations. You will see that option when selecting shipping.

If you are a beginner, we recommend that you use a clay that works for several different techniques. It should contain approx. 25% chamotte with a grain size of up to 0.2 mm.
If you want a light-colored clay, I recommend clay no. 254.
If you want a speckled clay, I recommend clay no. 930.
Both of these also work well with all glazes. -

We ship orders Monday, Wednesday and Friday via DHL, and pallets are sometimes shipped via DSV. Delivery time is normally 2-4 business days within Sweden. Pallet shipments may take slightly longer.

No, ceramics must be fired in a special kiln at very high temperatures (over 1000°C-1300°C).
If you are working with air-dry clay, it does not need to be fired at all. Read more about clay no. 751. -
The choice of glaze depends on your clay and the desired effect. Please feel free to contact us - we will help you find the right glaze for your project and your type of clay.

Lervis offers a wide variety of workshops and courses. Everything from short beginner courses (Try pottery) to longer courses with guest teachers who are experts in various ceramic techniques.
