Experimental glazing course with Klara Lord, October 17-18 & 25

On October 17-18 & 25, we welcome you to a playful and exploratory weekend course where ceramicist Klara Lord leads us through an experimental process to create exciting glazes.

During this course, we will dive into fascinating effect glazes such as crater glazes, crawling glazes, and gloop glazes. You will gain access to Klara's personal recipe book, explore her collection of glaze samples, and learn how different raw materials react with one another.

The course is perfect for those who want a solid foundation for beginning to mix their own glazes, as well as for those who are already experienced but curious about special glazes and effects. We will be working within the stoneware range, but the methods and knowledge you gain can easily be adapted to other temperatures.

ABOUT KLARA LORD
Klara Lord is a Gothenburg-based artist with a Master’s degree in Ceramic Art from HDK-Valand (2024) and many years of experience as a ceramics and sculpture instructor.

In her own artistic practice, she works experimentally with sculptural glazes and ceramic waste as raw materials. Klara is a true glaze professional who is passionate about exploring how materials melt, transform, and create unexpected surfaces during firing. As an educator, she generously shares her expertise, recipes, and vast collection of glaze samples to inspire others to dare to try something new!

STRUCTURE
We will work in a playful way to learn about glazes, what they consist of, and how they function by creating samples and evaluating them together. We will conduct various experiments and mix our own glazes. During the course, we will explore crater, crawling, and gloop glazes.
We will learn how to care for the kiln and ensure our own safety while experimenting.
There will be a walkthrough on how to read, weigh, and mix according to recipes, as well as different methods of application.

What you will learn during the course:

• Practical glaze chemistry: What does a glaze consist of and how does it work?
• Recipes & mixing: How to read, weigh, and mix glazes according to recipes.
• Special glazes: Exploring effects such as crater, crawling, and gloop.
• Application: Various methods for applying glaze to your test tiles.
• Safety & kiln maintenance: How to protect yourself while mixing and how to manage the kiln when experimenting with "wild" glazes.
• Group evaluation: We will analyze the test firings together to understand the results.

SATURDAY & SUNDAY OCTOBER 17-18, 9 AM – 4 PM

SUNDAY OCTOBER 25, 1 PM – 4 PM
We will meet again to review and evaluate all glaze samples.

MATERIALS
All materials and protective equipment are included. If you have your own protective mask, you are welcome to bring it.

FOOD & COFFEE
Please bring your own lunch for both days. We will provide afternoon coffee!

LOCATION & PRICE
Lervis ceramic studio is located 10 km south of Hjo in the small village of Äskelid. The course fee is paid here in the webshop.

CANCELLATION & REFUNDS
When you pay for the course, you are automatically registered and booked in your name for the course you purchased. The fee is non-refundable if you cancel later than 1 week before the start of the course. As a participant, you may, however, transfer your spot to someone else if desired. In that case, you need to provide the name of the person taking over your spot to info@lervis.se

If the course is canceled by Lervis, the full amount will be refunded.
