A course for those who want to learn the basics of what a glaze consists of and be able to change it to suit your needs. A lot of theory is interspersed with practice so that you can feel confident about starting to mix glazes from your own or existing recipes after completing the course.
ABOUT Ludvig Hyrefelt
The course is led by Ludvig, an artist and ceramist with a great interest in glazes and their chemistry. He has several educations in the field, currently at the Art College but also at Capellagården. Ludvig is often present in the Swedish ceramics context as a glaze expert and has a burning interest in exploring and understanding how different substances affect each other and in finding the exact effect one is striving for in their creation of glazes.
WHY MAKE YOUR OWN GLAZES?
The advantages of mixing your own glaze are many:
- It will be cheaper.
- You can get a glaze that looks exactly how you want.
- You know exactly what it contains and can therefore troubleshoot
if problems arise. - There are a plethora of free recipes to try.
- You can feel confident that your glaze is safe
for use on household goods. - You can avoid certain recipes that contain toxic substances.

You bring your own lunch for both days, access to the kitchen is available. We offer coffee and fruit. Please inform us if you have any allergies.
ACCOMMODATION
At Lervis there is a parking space that is free to use during the course (more info here: hjovedbastu.se). If you would like other accommodation, please contact Lervis/Ellen and we will find something affordable for the participants who wish it.
LOCATION & PRICE
Lervi's pottery workshop is located 10 kilometers south of Hjo in the small village of Äskelid. The course fee is paid here in the webshop, then there is a cost for Ludvig's compendium of 250 SEK which is paid on site.
This course is an artistic education and is covered by the education exemption according to the Value Added Tax Act (Chapter 3, Section 8), which means that VAT is not charged on the course fee.

CANCELLATION & REFUND
When you pay for the course, you will automatically be registered and booked in your name for the course you purchase. The fee is not refundable if you cancel later than 1 week before the start of the course. As a participant, however, you can transfer your place to someone else if you wish. In that case, you need to notify the name of the person who will take over your course place to info@lervis.se
Should the course be cancelled by Lervis, the full amount will be refunded.

DOWNLOADING COURSE MATERIALS
It usually takes around 2 months before your pieces are fired and glazed. Those who have booked the course will then receive an email stating that it is OK to come and pick up the ceramics. Check the opening hours and pick up your pieces when it suits you. If you would rather have your ceramics posted for a shipping cost, please contact info@lervis.se.
When the ceramics are picked up, the material cost of 100 SEK/kg of fully fired ceramics is also paid.
