At Lervi's weekend courses, you get to take part in the entire ceramics journey – from clay to finished product.

The course is suitable for both complete beginners and those who have previous experience and want to deepen the techniques. The course aims to give the participant an artistic foundation in turning, filling and glazing, as well as skills for continued development in ceramic design, for example taking advanced courses, own artistic work or training in arts and crafts.

The teaching takes the form of joint instruction in the different elements as well as individual supervision and feedback based on your personal level of knowledge. You have good opportunities to develop if you take several courses.

COURSE PURPOSE & OBJECTIVES
You will learn the basics of turning, charging and glazing. If interested, you will also be shown how to turn specific items, cups, bowls, plates and candlesticks. You will also have the opportunity to create items without a turning wheel, for example, squiggling, rolling, sculpting, etc.

Depending on how much you know, I will help you to further develop your artistic process.

The teaching consists of an introduction and demonstration of all the elements, then plenty of time for practical work under the supervision of ceramist Ellen Lannemyr. Everyone has their own wheel for the entire course.

After the course, participants should be able to:

  • the basics of centering and shaping simple vessels on the lathe
  • the basics of binding (fixing the underside of the turned products)
  • basic knowledge of rolling and rolling (depending on the wishes of the participants, these steps can be skipped)
  • knowledge of different glazes and colors and the basics of practical glazing
  • understand the entire work process from clay to finished art object

Feel free to prepare by getting inspired by what you would like to create during the course. If you are a complete beginner, you can watch videos where others show how to center and turn (you will of course also learn this on site). Wear clothes and shoes that you don't mind getting muddy on, you can borrow an apron. If you have long hair, it is practical to keep it up.

You bring your own lunch for both days, we will provide afternoon coffee.

SATURDAY 10-16
We start the day with a round of presentations and go over the plan for the weekend.
