Welcome to a two-day course in sectional throwing led by ceramicist Nina Bergqvist. This is a course for those who have already started throwing and need help and additional technique to progress. Everyone has their own potter's wheel during the course.

Learn to build both in height and width by assembling multiple thrown forms. We work with basic shapes such as spheres and cylinders to create unique expressions. This technique can be used on both large and small objects.

To benefit from the course content, you need to have experience in throwing and feel comfortable centering and handling 1 kg of clay.

COURSE STRUCTURE
In this course, you will learn the basics of sectional throwing. We work with basic shapes such as spheres and cylinders and build both in height and width. The technique can be used for both small and large objects. You can throw and assemble objects to achieve the desired expression.

We will cover, among other things:

  • The basic concept behind sectional throwing and how to plan your segments.
  • How to join parts together in a durable way.
  • Processing the form before and after assembly.
  • Use of a gas torch to speed up the drying process.

You will have plenty of time for individual practice and will receive individual guidance to take your throwing to the next level. Feel free to bring your own sketches, ideas, work clothes, and your favorite tools!

Frequently Asked Questions

Here you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions about Lervis and our products.

  • If you are a beginner, we recommend using a clay that works for several different techniques. One that contains approximately 25% chamotte with a grain size of up to 0.2mm.

If you want a light-colored clay, I recommend clay no. 254
If you want a speckled clay, I recommend clay no. 930

Both of these also work well with all glazes.

  • You can find the safety data sheets on each glaze's page here at lervis.se. Click on the "Product information" tab, and you will always find a link to the safety data sheet there.

  • Feel free to check out our Beginner's Guide to throwing!

  • We ship orders Monday, Wednesday, and Friday via DHL, and pallets are sometimes shipped with DSV. Delivery time is normally 2-4 business days within Sweden. Pallet shipments may take slightly longer.

  • No, ceramics must be fired in a special kiln at very high temperatures (over 1000°C-1300°C).

If you are working with air-drying clay, it does not need to be fired at all. Read more about clay no. 751.

  • The choice of glaze depends on your clay and the desired effect. Please feel free to contact us – we will help you find the right glaze for your project and your type of clay.
