Sun Yellow - Powder Glaze
A lovely pastel yellow powder glaze, easy to use and provides good results.

Preparing the Glaze
Mix 1kg of powder glaze with 9-10 dl of water.

The glaze/water ratio depends on the glazing method and the bisque's absorbency. You can then choose to add suspending and binding agents to further improve the glaze's properties if desired. Always perform glaze tests to find the optimal conditions based on your circumstances.

To reduce settling:
Add 0.2% Suspending agent. (total weight in grams × 0.002).

For better adhesion and less powderiness:
Add 2% Brushable agent as a binder (total weight in grams × 0.02). First, mix the Brushable agent in a small amount of the glaze until all lumps disappear, then stir it into the entire batch and mix thoroughly.

Let the glaze sit until the next day before use so that it has time to stabilize. Adjust the thickness with more water if needed.

Recommended firing range: 1200–1260°
Form: Powder glaze
Surface: Glossy
Food safe: YES

Glazing - Beginner's Guide!

Glazes, much like the variety of clays, are a chapter of their own and require both knowledge and a willingness to experiment. Glazes need to be tested and learned; they are like different individuals and need to be treated slightly differently to achieve exactly the result you are striving for. Here are tips for those of you who haven't glazed much before, so that you can learn the basics and avoid common mistakes.

To the glaze guide

Frequently Asked Questions

Here you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions about Lervis and our products

  • If you are a beginner, we recommend using a clay that works for several different techniques. One that contains about 25% grog with a particle size of up to 0.2 mm.

If you want a light-colored clay, I recommend clay no. 254
If you want a speckled clay, I recommend clay no. 930

Both of these also work well with all glazes.

  • You can find the safety data sheets on each glaze's page here at lervis.se. Click on the "Product Information" tab, where you will always find a link to the safety data sheet.

  • Feel free to check out our Beginner's Guide to throwing!

  • We ship orders Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with DHL, and pallets are sometimes shipped with DSV. The delivery time is normally 2-4 business days within Sweden. Pallet shipments may take slightly longer.

  • No, ceramics must be fired in a special kiln at very high temperatures (over 1000°C–1300°C).

If you are working with air-dry clay, it does not need to be fired at all. Read more about clay no. 751.

  • The choice of glaze depends on your clay and the desired effect. Please feel free to contact us - we will help you find the right glaze for your project and clay type.

  • Lervis offers a wide variety of workshops and courses. Everything from short beginner courses (Try throwing) to longer courses with guest teachers who are experts in various ceramic techniques.
