Clay 596 is a rustic clay that is fired in shades from pink to rust red. It contains 40% chamotte (0–1.5 mm), which gives it a rustic surface and excellent stability when building large shapes.

The clay's high refractoriness makes it particularly suitable for larger sculptures, vessels or other larger works where dimensional stability and crack resistance are crucial. The coarse chamotte provides both structure and very good resistance to thermal shock. The vibrant colour shift also makes it a beautiful choice without a glaze – perfect for those who want to let the natural character of the clay speak for itself.

  • Paint: Gives a rustic pink-rusty red surface after firing.
  • Firing temperature: 1000-1300°C for optimal results.
  • Chamotte: 40% chamotte (0-1.5 mm)
  • Areas of use: Perfect for curling larger pieces and large sculptures and shapes. Suitable for both professional and hobby ceramists.
  • 10 kg per package

Care instructions

Storage
Clay should be protected from direct sunlight and preferably stored cool. Recommended storage temperature is 5-18 degrees. Clay is a frost-sensitive product. Keep this in mind when ordering during the winter, Lervis is not responsible for handling the clay during shipping from Lervis to the customer.

Sustainability
Always keep the packaging tightly closed to prevent the clay from drying out. If it has dried out, add a little water and close it for a few days, and it will have softened again and can be kneaded and used. Don't forget the value of recycling all your clay waste. Clay is a fantastic natural material that can be reused many times before it is burned.
